Bath: Above the Madding Crowd

by Mary Charlebois
Tasburgh House

The red brick manor house sits above a split-level patio and terraced gardens. In the valley, and across the River Avon, the lights of Bath twinkle.

No crowds of chaotic tourist at Tasburgh House. It was my oasis of luxury, calm, and comfort. I relaxed in my room, lounging on the window seat’s cushions, gazing at the gardens and Bath across the valley. Harding, the bear, kept me company.

I’ll return. My host and hostess were delightful. A sumptuous breakfast in the atrium inspired each day. A nightcap each evening brought dreamy sleep. Is this how Jane Austen lived?
