Sippin’ and Strollin’ Through Savannah, Drink in Hand

by Jan Schroder

I felt a little guilty walking out of The DeSoto Savannah with a huge plastic cup full of cucumber spritzer at 2:00 in the afternoon but I was reassured open drinks are legal in the Historic District. We were on a Sip and Stroll tour with the concierge of the hotel, Kolin Podell, who was leading us on a gin-fueled tour of one of my favorite cities, sharing its history and stories about some of the famous residents, past and present.

He created the tour to share some of his favorite parts of the city, beyond River Street.
