ghost of Lady Dorothy Walpole

Does the Brown Lady haunt Raynham Hall? Reportedly the ghost of Lady Dorothy Walpole, who died in 1726, has been spotted several times over the years by visitors to this 17th-century home in Norfolk, U.K. She was the sister of Sir Robert, Britain’s first prime minister, and died at the age of 40 of mysterious circumstances.

The ghost became famous in 1936 after a photographer who was working on a story about the home took the image of the Brown Lady seemingly floating down the staircase.

The house is owned by the Marquess Townsend, who gives guided tours.
