The Potting Shed at Thatched Cottage was home while researching Hever Castle in Kent.
It’s tucked behind thatch-roofed, medieval Hall House, built in the 1400s. A path through an extraordinary English Garden meanders past ponds, under arbors, and through flowerbeds. Roses, lilies, iris, herbs, fruit trees, berry vines, and grasses surround the cottage.
My comfort was thoroughly looked after. Delectable breakfast was delivered in a basket. The bed was a dream. The bath was spa-like. Tea was plentiful.
French doors opened onto the gardens and a secluded seating area. It became my travel writer’s office and daily inspiration.

My husband grew up in a little village in Kent called Speldhurst, near Tunbridg Wells. He remembers bicycling to the castle with his sisters and friends.
