It describes itself as “a sampling of American history and culture as seen through the eyes of the cat.”

If you are one of the 95 million households in the US that owns a cat, or are just a cat-lover, you’ll want to stop at the American Museum of the House Cat in Sylva, North Carolina, about an hour from Asheville.

The museum was a dream of Dr. Harold Sims and includes his collection of art dating back to the 1800s, vintage cat toys, cat-related advertising and antique toy cats. Proceeds go to a no-kill cat shelter.
